Plan for your growing family's future

Do you have children at home? Parents have a lot of new information to absorb and decisions to make. There are plenty of books and classes on how to take care of your children and keep them safe. However, have you thought about how to protect them if the unexpected were to happen? When it comes to protecting the financial security of your loved ones, nothing is more important than planning ahead.

Evaluate your insurance

You love your family and want to do everything in your power to protect it—including having the right insurance. So when you choose your benefits, the following may be good choices for you to consider:

  • Life insurance may give you peace of mind if the worst were to happen by providing your family members with financial support when they need it most.
  • Short-Term Disability insurance and Long-Term Disability insurance may help keep your household running smoothly if you become too sick or injured to work for months or longer.
  • Accident insurance may help with out-of-pocket expenses due to an accident—so you don’t have to tap into your savings.
  • Critical Illness insurance may help reduce daily stress about money so you can focus on getting better, if you are diagnosed with a serious medical condition.

While insurance may feel complicated, it doesn’t have to be. Take this quiz to see what types of insurance may be good choices for you to consider.

Create a will and assign a guardian

Although you should be focusing on the new joys of parenthood and precious time with your children, you should also ensure that they would be taken care of if something were to happen to you. Selecting a legal guardian for your children, in the event that you can no longer care for them, is a big decision and should be documented in your will along with the beneficiaries of your estate.

Life is a journey with unexpected twists and turns—but no matter where you are in life, your family’s future needs to be protected. Making a plan for the unexpected and having the right insurance can help give you the freedom to live your life instead of worry about it.
