How to maintain a work/life balance

It can sometimes seem as though our schedules are becoming increasingly busy, which can make juggling family, work, and leisure tough. With constant access to phones and e-mails, it can be a struggle to disengage from work or other commitments. If you are having a hard time finding a work/life balance, take another look at your routine.

Consider the following approaches to help you have a more balanced lifestyle:

Organize for the week ahead

A little planning goes a long way. If you complete your errands, such as grocery shopping or laundry, on the weekends, you will feel less bogged down during the work week. Preparing your meals for the week over the weekend can help you eat healthier and give you more time for relaxation during the week.

Make it a priority to do something fun

Whether it is going out for dinner with your family, seeing a movie with friends, or pursuing a new hobby, at the beginning of each week, plan a fun activity for yourself to do that week. This helps get your mind off work and gives you something to look forward to. If you arrange to do something ahead of time, you can organize your schedule around it.

Add exercise into your routine

Exercise has many benefits, including a healthy body and mind. Incorporating regular physical activity into your routine may not be as difficult as you think, and it can help you decompress, focus better while at work, sleep more soundly, and give you more energy to tackle your busy schedule.

Unplug from your devices

Give yourself time each night away from your phone, laptop, television, tablet, or any other electronic device you may be using. Use your unplugged time to go for a walk, read a book, or write in a journal to allow yourself to physically and mentally unwind at the end of the day.

Taking small steps to change up your routine can go a long way in improving your work/life balance.
